Podsmead social housing stock consists of family, non-family and older persons accommodation. Properties are a mixture of post-war and newer built properties. Their construction varies from brick to prefabricated. The estate has 2, 3 & 4 bedroom family houses and the only collection of 3 bedroom prefabricated bungalows in the City, known as BL8's. The BL8's have undergone a major upgrade including re-wiring, re-cladding and replacement doors and windows. The 1 and 2 bedroom flats have replacement windows and central heating installed, and all blocks are served by a security intercom to the communal doors.
There are a variety of sheltered schemes included within the Podsmead area. The Badger Vale complex consists of 2 bedroom bungalows, Halford House complex consists of a mix of 1 and 2 bedroom flats, most with lift access, Chaucer Close is a complex of 1 bedroom bungalows, and Housing 21 manage forty-six 1 bedroom flats for elderly people at the Duke of Beaufort Court.
On the estate there are primary and senior schools within walking distance. There are several large green areas, two of which have recreational facilities. There is also a community centre and a variety of local shops. The area us served by a good regular bus service. There is an active Tenant's Association in Podsmead.
