What to do when the water supply comes back on

When the mains water supply returns, it will not immediately be of drinking quality.

When water supply returns through taps:

  • Do NOT drink the water even after boiling it
  • Do NOT use the water for food preparation or washing dishes
  • Do NOT use the water for ice-making
  • Do NOT use the water for cleaning your teeth
  • Do NOT use the water for making baby feeds
  • The water CAN be used for flushing toilets, bathing and showering

Bottled water or boiled bowser water remains the ONLY safe source of drinking water until further notice.

You will be informed when tap water is safe to drink.

It is important to take note of the latest advice provided by Severn Trent Water.  For the latest information visit: http://www.stwater.co.uk/

Businesses

  • Staff working in food business should ensure they wash their hands only in drinking quality water (bottled or boweser water), rather than the current tapwater.
  • In premises where food is served, customer toilets should be provided with drinking quality water (bottled or bowser water), or suitable wipes for handwashing.
