The objects provide evidence for the technology and craftsmanship around in the Roman world as well as the culture of those that occupied Gloucester nearly two thousand years ago.

The box also could be used in conjunction with a Victorian box to compare home life in Gloucester over a nearly two thousand year span.

All of the objects in this box can be handled by pupils. Therefore as well as providing a fantastic exploration into the Romans this box is also ideal to enthuse your class about the power of the past by getting them to literally hold it in their hands. How did the Romans like to celebrate?

 

How have people from the past celebrated cultural and special family events?

This box contains a selection of replica objects to allow you to recreate a Roman banquet in your classroom. Celebration of religious, traditional and family events have always been important in all cultures and the Romans were no exception. Through staging a banquet in the classroom, pupils can see the similarities and differences between Roman celebrations and those in their own life. Many schools choose to use the banquet box as part of an end of term or end of topic celebration, or as part of a wider school assembly to present what has been learnt in a fun and accessible manner to parents or the rest of the school.
