Victorian Classroom - Loan Box

Victorian Classroom Loans Box

Key Ideas:

What was life like for children in Victorian Gloucester?

How was Victorian school different to school today?

This box allows you to recreate the atmosphere of a Victorian classroom inside your own. Packed full of equipment that would have been familiar to Victorian pupils, the box also contains information and guidance to help you capture the discipline and ethos of Victorian schooling. The only thing not included is the strict teacher!

If preferred the box can also be used to study the Victorian classroom through looking at the objects as evidence rather than creating a role play type situation. This is especially useful with younger pupils that may find a realistic classroom set up a little daunting. The box also works well as preparation for a class having a Folk Museum Victorian classroom experience, or as a post visit exercise to consolidate and reflect upon the experience and learning.

All of the objects in this box can be handled or worn by pupils. Handling notes and information about all the objects are included in the box, along with ideas about the box can be used effectively in the classroom to support and inspire learning.
