Victorian Toys - Session

Gloucester Folk Museum

Key Aims:

What did Victorian children play with in the past?

How are our toys different to Victorian toys?

How did Victorian toys reflect Victorian society?

This session explores traditional Victorian toys with lots of opportunities for the pupils to try out the toys that are being discussed. Pupils will consider how, by who and from what materials Victorian toys were made. The concept of religious toys on a Sunday, as well as parlour and street games will also be considered.

The focus of this session is very much on giving the children a chance to handle, play with and discuss the toys to help them understand more about Victorian society and what life was like as a child in Victorian Britain.

Why not make it a Victorian day?

To get the most out of your Victorian themed visit to Gloucester Folk Museum, why not also book a Victorian Classroom or Victorian Domestic session, or if it’s the right time of the year a Victorian Christmas session. Sometimes it is possible to run these sessions simultaneously to allow you to bring multiple classes for a full Victorian experience. Just to get in touch with us for more details and to make the arrangements.
