World War Two loans box
Key Ideas:
What was daily life like on the home front in Gloucester during World War Two?
What new roles and responsibilities did people find themselves in due to the war?
This box explores objects that would have been familiar to those on the ‘home front’ in Gloucester during World War Two. The box concentrates mainly on objects that the outbreak of war necessitated (in contrast to our ‘1940s Life’ box which concentrates on non war related objects from the era.) The box provides pupils with a chance to handle and view genuine artefacts to explore issues like bombing raids, rationing, and public campaigns like ‘‘Dig for Victory’, as well as considering some aspects on wartime information and propaganda.
All of the objects in this box can be handled by pupils. Handling notes and information about all the objects are included in the box, along with ideas about the box can be used effectively in the classroom to support and inspire learning.
