In March 2006 we we asked for your views on the design of a new Skate Park as part of the redevelopment of Gloucester Park|. Youngsters were given the opportunity to choose the design for a new £60,000 skate park, to be located at the Bakers's Field Youth Sports Arena|.  Following the counting of the votes, the results are as follows:

Design A (Freestyle Skateparks) 35%
Design B (Gravity) 32%
Design C (Hags Play) 22%
Design D (Bendcrete) 11%

In total 109 votes were cast, and we would like to thank you all for your contributions.  Following some of the feedback we received, we have approached Freestyle Skateparks and asked them to slightly modify their design to incorporate more bowl features while retaining the central plaza.  A final design has now been agreed.  Completion of the new skate park is expected by the end of August 2006.

The original details are below:

Four designs have been drawn up following talks with local skaters in December 2005 to discuss what was required for the new skate arena.  Ideas included a 'plaza' or street based design along with a number of elements for beginners.  These talks have been used to influence the design of the skatepark, and the Council have drawn up four different designs.  The designs are below - click on the image to enlarge.

The Redevelopment of Gloucester Park

In February 2004 Gloucester City Council was awarded £1.1 million of 'Liveability Funding' by the Government to redevelop and revive Gloucester Park.  Work has been underway for a while, and a number of facilities have already been provided.  For example, £150,000 was used to completely overhaul the parks tired childrens playground, which subsequently went on to win an award for the best new playground in the country|.  For more information on Gloucester Park, click here|.

Another £40,000 is going to be spent later at Baker's Field youth sports area| later in 2006 to provide tennis courts, a BMX track and a fitness station.
