How can Housing Benefit be paid?

If you are a Gloucester City Homes tenant your Housing Benefit is automatically credited to your rent account.

If you are not a Gloucester City Homes tenant and are awarded Housing Benefit there is a choice about where the money is paid. It can be paid

  • straight into a bank, building society, GIRO account or National Savings Bank account
  • direct to your landlord (unless you are paid under the Local Housing Allowance rules)

We recommend that you get your benefit paid direct into an account because

  • it is safe and secure
  • it is convenient - you decide when and how much you want to withdraw
  • using an account may help you to save
  • from some accounts you could have regular bills paid
  • you can get your money out from many different places.

The account can be

  • in your name
  • in both the names of yourself and your partner
  • in both the names of yourself and a person acting on your behalf.
