How much Benefit might I receive?

When we work out your benefit we take account of the following details:

  • How much money you have coming in each week
  • How much you have in savings and investments
  • Who lives in your household and their circumstances
  • How much rent and council tax you have to pay

If you are renting from a private landlord Housing Benefit is calculated on a rent level set by the Rent Service. The Rent Service is independent of the council and makes its decisions based on average rents, locations, property size, number of household members and the standard of accommodation.

Visit the Valuation Office Agency Website| for further information.

For further information use our room calculator.|

Please note for private tenants renting through a private landlord it is your responsibility to inform the council if there are any changes to the number of people living in your property or if your children reach a significant age.

To obtain an approximate calculation please use the online Housing Benefit Calculator|
