The building control service of Gloucester City Council is a publicly accountable service dedicated to ensuring that the built environment, in which we live and work is safe and healthy and protects the welfare and convenience of people in and around buildings. We are impartial with an objective, practical and common sense approach to the practice of Building Control Surveying.
Our expertise enables our service to deal with a diverse range of work from minor domestic alterations to multi million pound regeneration projects.
We provide specialist advice not only on building regulation matters but also relating to structural engineering, compliance issues associated with party walls, fire risk assessment, equality access and asbestos surveying as well as sustainability matters including SAP, SBEM and CSH assessments, renewable energy.
We also investigate and if necessary making safe existing structures that are immediate dangers to the public; as well as scrutinise proposed demolition works.
In addition we are responsible for ensuring safety at sports grounds and can provide advice based on the recommendations contained in the "Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds" related to such matters as adequate structure, provisions of gangways, fire escapes, crash barrier design and engineering services.
