Get ready….set…go!
It’s time to take a very deep breath and get ready for the next few months.
It is going to be very busy, very exciting and very different.
There is a huge amount going on and so much to look forward to.
On Thursday May 3rd we have the local council elections. This is a major logistical exercise for us in staffing and running the polling stations and then the count in the evening.
The polls close at 10.00pm and we will then be working until the small hours of the morning to declare the results in the 10 city wards in which there are elections.
It is important that everyone who is eligible to do so turns out and votes. Everyone should have their say on how their city is run.
On Thursday May 24th the City plays host to the Olympic Torch Relay. Local ‘Inspirational Torchbearers’ will be given ‘their chance to shine’ as this symbol of the Olympic Games journeys around the UK.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be able to say ‘I was there’ in what is a world-wide spectacle. We hope that you will line the route and take this opportunity to get involved and put Gloucester’s leg of the relay well and truly one the international map.
We’ve barely waved goodbye to the Torch relay and we then have the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and a great summer of events across the city.
From the Party in the Park through to our annual summer festival with a host of things to do - we then have our history festival and heritage open days.
Our residents magazine City Life will be delivered to all local homes between May 7-18 and will have a detailed pull-out ‘what’s on’ guide. It will also be available from council buildings and locations around the city.
This is going to be a summer to remember. Join in and be a part of it.

Chief Executive
