Proud and excited
We all have every reason to be both proud and excited by the announcement that Gloucester Rugby Club has been chosen as a venue for Rugby World Cup 2015.
It is recognition of the belief in the club and its facilities and it is a glowing endorsement for the City as a whole in our ability to host an event of this magnitude.
Both the club and the City Council have been working closely together and extremely hard for a number of months to secure this selection. We are hugely excited to have been successful as it is major coup for the club and the city as a whole.
Now we will be taking a deep breath and starting work to deliver a world class experience for those people who will be travelling to Gloucester potentially from all corners of the world.
Make no mistake, in the coming months as we lead into this major international sporting event the eyes of the world will be upon us. It is an opportunity to showcase ourselves like no other opportunity in recent memory.
One of the reasons we were undoubtedly successful is because Gloucester is known to have the most passionate rugby supporters in the country. As a City we live and breathe for the game in a way that few others can emulate.
We must transform that passion into all other aspects of our everyday lives from tourism, to business and investment.
Gloucester is a fabulous place to live, work, visit and do business. We know that.
Now is our opportunity to get that message across to a global audience.
Let’s make sure that we take it with both hands.
