We believe in equal opportunities in employment. We are working to remove barriers to equality of opportunity at all stages of job applications. We aim to select the right person for the job based on their skills and abilities to do the job.
WE PROMISE TO:
Set a realistic timetable to give you enough time to apply for the job.
-
Make our selection procedures fair.
-
Provide induction training for all new employees to help them settle into their job.
OUR STANDARDS
-
Many vacancies are advertised publicly, including at Gloucester Job Centre. Also on bulletin boards at community centres and shops within the city. Details are also circulated to local communities.
-
We will send you enough information about the job and the Council to enable you to decide whether or not to apply. We will describe the skills, knowledge and abilities that the job requires clearly.
-
We will send you an application form within three working days of receiving your request. Normally we will also tell you the interview dates when we send you the application form.
-
If you have been selected for interview we will write and tell you. For others, we will say in the information you receive that if you have not heard from us by a particular date, you have not been shortlisted.
-
We will give you at least a week's notice of the interview. We will tell you the names and job titles of your interviewers at the same time. If the selection process consists of anything more than an interview, we will let you know when we first write to you.
-
At the interview there will always be more than one person on the panel. The Chair of the panel will be trained to ensure that all applicants are treated fairly.
-
Your application form will only be seen by people processing your application or shortlisting and interviewing. Forms from unsuccessful applicants will be kept securely for 6 months in case of any complaint and then destroyed.
-
We will not contact any referee without your permission.
-
We will treat the information you give us in confidence and in accordance with the data protection legislation.
