PARK MAKEOVER
Community teamwork is bringing about a glorious transformation to the popular Matson Park. Work has included removing overgrown brambles and tidying up other vegetation, putting up bird boxes, bat boxes, and planting wild flowers. Several litter picks have also taken place and drainage is set to be improved.
Council Neighbourhood Rangers along with Matson Neighbourhood Project, Together in Matson, local youngsters, Action 4 Employment, Gloucester City Homes and Community Payback have all played their part in enhancing the area. And local businessman, John Bailey, and DIY firm B&Q have also made donations to the project.
The Wild Life Park is used by residents for dog walks, fishing or even quiet reflection. Tammy Morris, Matson Neighbourhood Park Community Involvement Worker, said: "This has pulled the community together to restore a beautiful area where children can play, families can picnic and people can walk their dogs.
"There has been so much positive feedback from local residents and we want everyone to feel proud of what has been done here."
'Together in Matson' secured £1,000 from the council's Neighbourhood Pride Fund to help finance part of the project. A number of community groups have taken advantage of the fund which offers money for initiatives which help make the city a better place to live.
This is just one of many projects where residents in Gloucester have put in time and effort to enhance their neighourhood by making them cleaner, greener and safer. For more information go to www.gloucester.gov.uk/npf|
