Gloucester will be awash with colour as the city's carnival celebrates its 70th anniversary. 'Gloucester Celebrates' is the theme for the 2006 carnival which marks the opening of the Summer Festival - a two-week long jamboree of music, sport and entertainment which ends in spectacular fashion with a firework display in the awardwinning Gloucester Park.
And during the festival the new look Kings Square will be graced by some of the world's most accomplished musicians when it
plays host to the Gloucester International Rhythm & Blues Festival on July 30. Since 1936 the carnival has drawn hundreds of people to the heart of Gloucester to take part in the procession through the streets of the city centre. And to mark its 70th birthday Carnival Queens from bygone days will be joining the festivities on July 22 from 2.30pm. Details of the festival can be found at www.gloucester.gov.uk/events|
