Darwin - A Big Draw in the city

Description
1st October 2009: On October 3rd Gloucester City Council's, Museum and Art Gallery will be combining two events - the Big Draw and 200 years since the birth of Charles Darwin. The event will concentrate on the objects that Darwin, one of England's greatest scientists, would have drawn during his studies, complementing the Darwin Today exhibition currently running at the museum.

Gloucester City Council is running a week of road shows, at the newly opened outpatient building, to raise awareness of the range of welfare benefits available to residents.

"Ton Up" Claims

Description
More than 100 people have already submitted new, faster 'cyber claims' for their council and housing tax benefit. The new system means that claims can be submitted online from anywhere with an internet connection. Forms can even be saved and returned to at another time.

Flood alleviation work to begin at Gloucester Park

Description
As part of the ongoing flood alleviation work in the city, works to improve the drainage at Gloucester Park and surrounding area will begin on Monday 2nd November. The work being carried out by Gloucester City council is jointly funded by Gloucestershire County Council and will take up to a week and a half to complete.

Allotment associations taking root

Description
Gardening enthusiasts in Longlevens, cultivating plots on the local allotment site, have just formed the sixth association to be set up in the city. At a recent meeting nearly 50 people who 'work' plots on the site and others on the waiting list in Innsworth Road met to discuss the benefits of having an association to provide mutual help and support.

Find wisdom from the ancients

To find out what those in days gone by did for us visit the Gloucester City Museum and Art Gallery's Ancient Wisdom exhibition. From now until the 24th November visitors can find out how the Romans shot down castle walls with a catapult and how the Egyptians locked their doors.
