Snowy, Gloucester City Council’s, orphaned chick turns one today (5th February) – due to the support given by local people to find the little chick a new family.
Snowy was born during the heavy snowfall last February, hence her name, and was the only egg to hatch from fifteen. Since then Snowy has gone on to become a local celebrity.
Her first job was fronting a ‘things to do on the cheep’ poster campaign for the city council. She followed this up by tweeting on the councils Twitter page and staring in her very own ‘chick flick’.

More recently, she has been seen on stage at the Guildhall with the Young Knives and has even done a stint in the box office.
Day-to-day she spends her time with her friends Bob and Speckles, who she has been with since the appeal last February, at the rare breeds centre at Robinswood Hill.
When the City Farm re-opens on March 6th, she along with Bob and Speckles will move to their summer residence, before returning to the Robinswood Hill.
Derek Wakefield-Brown, Countryside Manager said: “We have many rare breeds up at the centre on Robinswood Hill which we take to the city farm during opening times for local people to enjoy.
“The work the team does to ensure these breeds continue is extremely important. The range of rare breeds we look after is vast, including cows, pigs, sheep, goats, rabbits, ducks and of course chickens.”
Councillor Martyn White, cabinet member for heritage and leisure said: “Having a local celebrity, like Snowy, has helped to put the City Farm in Tredworth on the map. Visitor levels were up considerably on the previous year and I’m sure they will be up again this year.”
