From The 1st February, Gloucester residents will be able to put out their new food waste caddy for collection.
Residents should put the new, brown food caddy out each week on their normal collection day, along with their recycling boxes.
As an added incentive, households who begin using the service in it’s first week will be in with a chance of winning prizes donated by Gloucester Rugby, who are backing the new recycling campaign.
One prize will be available in each of the fifteen wards. Prizes include a framed signed shirt, tickets to the Gloucester vs. Leeds game, and signed team posters.
Steve Morgan, cabinet member for the environment said: “To be in with a chance of winning residents need to put their caddy out for collection by 7am on their morning of collection. One of our neighbourhood managers will randomly select a home in each ward.
“Households will be notified they have won a prize with a gold star being put through the letterbox.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Gloucester Rugby for their support with the launch of the new service. I hope that residents can take pride in the city, as they do the rugby club, by helping us exceed recycling rates.”
The competition is just one of the ways the council is trying to encourage residents to make the conversion and give recycling a try. It has recently launched a marketing campaign featuring two of the Gloucester players, Marco Bortolami and Gloucester boy Andrew Hazell.
Andrew Hazell, said: “It’s great to back a campaign that is really going to make a difference in the city. We all need to be more environmentally responsible and I for one will be recycling my food waste, and am glad I can now add plastic bottles and card to my recycling box.”
