Fledgling businesses in the creative sector are being given the chance to spread their wings in a new office scheme being opened on Friday (January 29) based at Gloucester Docks.
City Council economic development staff have secured nearly £38,000 worth of regional funding to develop the office space.
Now new businesses in the sector – which includes advertising, design, fashion design, film and video, interactive software, television and radio among many others – could use it to help get their operations up and running.
The ‘incubator project’ – known as Quays Creative – is located within the Nexus facilities and will enable businesses to take short-term lets to help them establish.
Nexus is a partnership between Gloucestershire College and the University of Gloucestershire, which develops tailor made training to businesses.
The Gloucestershire Media Group, a network of hundreds of related businesses, is also supporting the scheme.
Council Leader Paul James, who will be officially opening the scheme, commented: “ This scheme is based in the heart of the city and in the heart of the regeneration that is taking place.
“ This is a tremendously exciting opportunity for fledgling businesses to turn this part of Gloucester into a hub for this sector. Schemes like this are ideal for young businesses. It provides superb office space with training and support close at hand.
“ It is imaginative schemes like this that are helping to create Gloucester as a modern 21 st century city.”
