Members Shadowing scheme

Calling all women - Your council needs YOU!

Gloucester City Council is offering women in the city the chance to get to know what it's like to be a Councillor, with its - Women's Councillor Shadowing scheme.

The council is looking to improve the representation of women within the local democratic system. Currently only 28% of Councillors are female, despite the fact that they make up around 51% of the population.

Applicants must be 17 years or older, want to make a difference in the city and their local community and be able to commit to a minimum of fifteen hours over four months (May-August).

The cost of expenses, for example childcare/travel, can be covered.

Who knows, you may even feel like putting yourself forward for elected office after this experience.

The closing date is 31st March 2010.

An application form and supporting information is available to download here.
