|What is the Citizen of Gloucester Award?
The award has been set up to enable the city council to recognize the outstanding contribution made by individuals (especially on a voluntary basis) to enrich the lives of local people in the areas of caring, business, environment, good neighbours, public service or sports.
The successful person will receive the award in January 2010 at an evening civic reception hosted by The Mayor in the North Warehouse. A commemorative plate and framed certificate will be presented in front of invited guests and councillors.
Can I nominate anyone?
Yes, provided your nominee meets the criteria. The person must either live in the city, or work with residents or businesses in Gloucester.
The citizens of Gloucester are drawn from very wide and diverse backgrounds and we encourage nominations from as many of these backgrounds as possible.
Should I tell the person I wish to nominate?
This is not necessary as the successful nominee will be informed and asked if they are willing to accept the award.
It may also be unfair to raise a nominee’s expectations in case they are disappointed.
What are the "grounds for nomination"?
The grounds for nomination will be different from person to person. You are asked to provide factual information about the individual’s outstanding contribution to enrich the lives of the citizens of Gloucester, including, for example, details of posts held and length of time involved in an organization’s activities.
If, without breaking confidentiality, you have difficulty obtaining details, you should say so on this form.
How do i submit a nomination?
Nomination forms can be obtained from the Tourist Information Centre, The Guildhall (arts centre), various council offices, GL1 (leisure centre), The Citizen office, libraries and museums.
