Flood Update Monday July 30th 5.00pm
-
City Council plastic bottle banks have been overwhelmed by the public-spirited response of residents in returning their used bottle water containers.
-
Due to their light weight - plastic bottles need to be collected in closed containers - collected by a specialist vehicle.
-
There is only one vehicle available for use by the council and it is struggling to cope with demand.
-
There has been a massive response by the public who have followed the advice given to return their used bottles when they come to collect fresh supplies from the bottled water distribution points.
-
Residents are now being asked to help in one of two ways:
-
Crush the bottles before taking them to the bottle banks - to enable more to be collected and,
-
Retain used bottles at home for as long as possible to ensure a staggered response.
