Core Strategy

The Core Strategy is the most important part of Local Plan. It identifies the key, strategic issues of most importance to the local area and translates these into a strategy for tackling them. Examples include how to provide more affordable housing, reduce traffic congestion and tackle climate change.

The city council is currently preparing a Joint Core Strategy (JCS) with Cheltenham borough council and Tewkesbury borough council.

However previous to this a draft Gloucester Core Strategy was prepared alongside the Local Development Framework in 2006, along with other related documents. This Core Strategy will now be taken forward through the JCS but the draft Gloucester Core Strategy and other supporting information can be downloaded by clicking on the relevant link below.
