Garden waste
The chargeable service runs from 1 February until 30 November and collections are fortnightly. Please present your bin for collection by 7am, garden waste bins presented without a sticker will not be emptied.
This service is available for properties where the wheeled bin can be safely stored away from the pavement and is not classed as a 'hard to reach property'. If you think your property may have access problems, please contact us. Our crews will only make 2 attempts to collect from a road where access is blocked. If they cannot gain access on the 2nd attempt the crew will not return until the next scheduled collection.
How much it costs
£50 for each garden waste bin subscription
£29 for each garden waste bin subscription (your Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support reference number will be required to receive the discount)
Please do not pay using an old invoice number if you do not pay by direct debit you will need to sign up to this years service.

Manage your subscription
This only applies to residents who have completed a new online signup for the 2024 service.
You can use the online service to:
- order a replacement sticker
- order a replacement bin
If you pay by direct debit, please contact us if you need a replacement sticker or bin.
Garden waste sticker
You should receive your sticker within 10 working days of payment being taken, if you do not receive your sticker please contact us. Please note the sticker policy will be in place from 1 March.
When you receive your sticker, please put it on your bin straightaway, underneath the pulling handles onto a clean and dry surface (do not place on top of existing stickers).
Cancellations or refunds
You cannot cancel your subscription and request a refund, unless you are within the 14 working day cooling off period. After this time any requests for cancellation will be non-refundable.
If you no longer need a garden waste collection and would like the bin removed, please contact us.
If you're moving within the city you cannot take your garden waste subscription with you. If you want to use the garden waste service at your new address you will need to sign up and pay for a new subscription.
Items we'll collect:
- Grass Cuttings
- Hedge Trimmings
- Plants and cut flowers
- Twigs and small branches
- Weeds, plants, leaves and bark
- Real Christmas trees cut to fit (these should be cut no thicker than your wrist and should be cut to fit into the bin)
Items we don't collect:
- Food Waste (use your brown food caddy)
- Garden tools and furniture
- Soil, compost, stones, bricks and rubble
- Cardboard and paper
- Plastic pots and labels
- Vegetable peelings
- Animal faeces
- Plastic bags
- Chemicals
- Ash
- Soiled newspaper or sawdust used for animal bedding - we don't accept any type of animal bedding
- General rubbish
- Any type of packaging including those marked as being compostable/biodegradable/recyclable

How to manage your garden waste in December and January
We would advise you to compost any garden waste generated. Leaf fall can be left on grassed areas to help improve soil quality or for wildlife.
You should not store garden waste in your bin as it will breakdown and become heavy. Heavy bins will be rejected by the bin lift, tagged by the crew and will not be emptied. You will need to remove the contents of the bin before the next scheduled collection. No additional garden waste will be taken on the next collection.
Other ways to recycle
