Council leader announces cabinet and welcomes new Mayor

Gloucester City Council leader Councillor Richard Cook confirmed his new cabinet at the council’s annual meeting today which saw the city also welcome a new mayor.

The meeting took place at the Guildhall and was streamed online.

Following his re-election Cllr Cook, who holds the portfolio for Environment, announced the councillors who would make up his cabinet and their areas of responsibility.

  • Hannah Norman, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Performance and Resources
  • Justin Hudson, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods
  • Steve Morgan, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure
  • Andrew Gravells MBE, Cabinet Member for Planning and Housing Strategy

Cllr Cook said: “We have a wealth of local knowledge and experience in the cabinet and we will be busy setting out our priorities and our vision for helping the city recover as we hopefully move out of the Covid crisis to better times ahead.”

The incoming Mayor was named as Cllr Collette Finnegan (Abbeydale, Conservative), and incoming Sheriff and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Clive Walford (Longlevens, Conservative).

The Mayor is the first citizen of the City of Gloucester and acts as Chair of the Council. They represent the council and the city at civic, ceremonial and community events both inside the city boundaries and elsewhere.

Cllr Finnegan said: “I’m delighted to be appointed the new Mayor of Gloucester. It’s an honour to represent this beautiful city and I look forward to a busy year as we gradually get back to normal following the difficult times many of us have faced during the pandemic.”
