Funding for community groups to improve parks
Gloucester City Council has made £100,000 available for community groups who want to improve their local park.
The Neighbourhood Environment Improvement Fund has been set up to empower local communities to identify the improvements they would like to see made to their local green spaces, and to work with them to deliver those improvements.
A wide range of environmental projects will be eligible for funding including new gates, fences, paths and other infrastructure improvements, information boards, additional tree, shrub or wildflower planting and schemes which improve access and security.
Applications of up to £3,000 will be considered but the city council may be able to support larger projects if they deliver exceptional benefits to the residents of Gloucester.
Contributions towards larger projects may also be considered and a panel will meet every six weeks to determine applications.
Cllr Richard Cook, Gloucester City Council leader and cabinet member for the environment, said: “I’m delighted we have been able to set up this fund. It will enable community groups to receive money to carry out the improvements they would like to see at local parks and green spaces across the city.
“I’m sure the scheme will prove to be very popular and I look forward to seeing applications come in.”
