Tourism Award Celebration for Visit Gloucester
Visit Gloucester are celebrating after winning an award at the prestigious Visit England Awards for Excellence 2022, which recognises the best of the country’s tourism industry.
Visit Gloucester, the Destination Management Organisation within Gloucester City Council, took home a silver award in the TXGB Trailblazer category. They came a very close second to the Rugby League World Cup which was awarded the Gold.
The Visit England Awards celebrate and champion innovation and best practice across the tourism sector.
Winners are selected from hundreds of tourism businesses across England including hotels, self-catering accommodation, B&Bs, glamping operators, attractions, restaurants, pubs, and museums.
They compete in categories ranging from New Tourism Business of the Year to the Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Tourism Award, the Resilience and Innovation Award to the Unsung Hero Award.
The Visit Gloucester team won their award for introducing a new ticketing system that allows them to promote and sell tickets to a wide-range of experiences in the city through the Visit Gloucester website, which supports visitors in planning their city visit.
Councillor Andy Lewis, the Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure at Gloucester City Council, said: “I am delighted that the city council’s Tourism and Destination Marketing team has been recognised by Visit Britain with this national award. They are a small but dedicated team, passionate about promoting the city to its residents and visitors and showing off Gloucester to the world. It is wonderful to receive this industry-wide endorsement of their trailblazing work.”
Tourism is one of England’s largest and most valuable industries, supporting hundreds of thousands of businesses, employing around 2.6 million people and, in 2019, generating £76 billion in domestic visitor spending.
