Christmas comes early in Gloucester

With Christmas just around the corner, Gloucester City Council is encouraging people to 'shop local' by offering free parking in the city centre.

In a bid to support local business and to encourage people to shop locally, the city council will be waiving parking charges after 3pm, at the Eastgate and Kingswalk carparks.

The offer will run on the three Thursdays before Christmas.

The move follows the free parking offered by the council on Small Business Saturday, which was also intended to support city centre retailers.

Councillor Paul James, leader of Gloucester City Council, said: “Shopping locally is extremely important for the local economy and to maintain a healthy city centre with a mix of big retailers and independents.

Gloucester is a great place to do your Christmas shopping so please support your local traders at what is a crucial time of the year for them.”
