Following a temporary closure in March due to restrictions surrounding the pandemic, the newly refurbished cinema has now thrown open its doors

news

Visitors can expect a number of safety measures to ensure a safe visit including limited, distanced seating, online booking and socially distanced one-way systems.

October’s film programme includes returning screenings of ‘Emma’, ‘Misbehaviour’ and ‘Military Wives’, plus a special black and white edition of Boon Jong Ho’s extraordinarily successful Oscar winner ‘Parasite’.

Event cinema screenings include Andre Rieu’s 15 year celebration of Magical Maastricht concert series, and Michael Ball and Alfie Boe’s final show of their sold-out UK tour.

Later in the month there are special Halloween and Black History Month screenings, and the French Film Festival following in November.

Though the unexpected closure offered many challenges, staff used this time to make improvements to the venue; completing large parts of a planned refurbishment to the cinema, and café. Plans to complete these updates with new seating will follow later this year.

Housed in the original council chambers, Gloucester Guildhall Cinema screens the best independent and international films alongside Hollywood blockbusters and Live Event screenings of theatre performances and special music events from across the world.

Councillor Steve Morgan, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure at Gloucester City Council, said “The Guildhall plays an important part in the cultural life of our city so it’s great to be able to welcome people back to this much loved building. The pandemic presented us with a real challenge but allowed us to make some welcome improvements to the building so that we’re able to offer visitors the best possible experience.”

Tickets are £6, event cinema tickets £15. Visit www.gloucesterguildhall.co.uk or call the Guildhall Box Office on 01452 503050.  With limited seating available for each screening advance booking is strongly advised. The Cinema has a strict seating plan in place to adhere to social distancing measures. For more information on Gloucester Guildhall’s safety measures please visit the venue website.
