Your services – you decide

Residents are being invited to give their views on one of the most important decisions for the future of the city.

It takes just a few minutes to fill in the survey, which lets the council know what residents feel should be prioritised, when it decides what to invest in services like waste collections, street cleaning, housing and parks.

Currently the council has started the process of setting the budget for 2019/2020, which will be approved in February next year. This follows the introduction of ‘Together Gloucester’, an ongoing programme that will change how the organisation operates and works with residents.

Not only will it transform how the council delivers services it will also make more than £1m in savings.

In 2018/19 the Council has had to deliver further savings of £200k with further savings required in 2020/21. And in future years it must still look to make more savings to ensure residents get the services they need and balance the budget.

This is due to greater demand for council services, combined with price rises, less money coming from government and inflation, meaning that overall running costs will increase. So it’s even more important that residents have their say on which services they consider to be a priority.

The consultation will close at midnight on Friday 18 January.

Cllr Hannah Norman, cabinet member for performance and resources said: “We know that our residents expect and deserve value for their money as well as great services that support our communities. And in these financially challenging times where we are having to work hard to make savings, we want to make sure that people agree that we are making the best decisions for the city.”
