Service update:

Please present your garden waste bin displaying the 2021/22 or 2022/23 sticker. If you have paid this year by cash or card, but not yet received a sticker please present your bin, as we have it on record you have paid.

We will only be accepting new sign ups until 30th September, after this date residents will be able to sign up from 1st February 2023

Following a consultation, the council have decided not to operate the garden waste collection service in December and January.  Historically, there is very little garden waste to collect in these months, therefore, to assist service delivery and to contribute to carbon savings, the garden waste service will cease at the end of November 2022 and recommence in February 2023.

Please remember:

Your garden waste bin needs to be ready at the kerbside by 7am on your scheduled collection day. We have a closed lid and no side waste policy that also applies to garden waste. 

On the morning of your garden waste collection please make sure the content and lid of your bin isn't frozen to allow collections to be carried out.

Please note: This manual service is for new customers or for customers who require additional bins/collections. If you are an existing customer you will receive your renewal notice with payment details, in due course, and need not reapply here. As we are currently dealing with a Cyber Incident, we are currently not able to offer our normal online sign-up service.
However, we have put a limited manual process into place, which should allow many people to apply and start the service. Similarly, you can apply for additional bins this way. This process basically involves the following:
• You download the application form and terms and conditions via the link below (or we can email you this if you email or phone us).
• You complete and email the application form back to us at
• We record your application.
• We send you an email to confirm receipt of your application and to advise of a valid invoice reference number, to make payment.
• You make payment by card, online at or via the phone number 0800 953 5588 (Council Invoices option)
• We identify your payment.
• If you do not pay by direct debit a sticker will be issued as soon as possible after payment has been received. Please continue to present your bin with the old 2021/2022 sticker until then
• We deliver your garden waste bin within 14 days (if one needed and requested in your application – some properties have bins left, which can be used). If you have not received your bin please contact

Once you've signed up, the service is continuous unless cancelled.  A renewal notice will be sent annually. Residents who have signed up to the service will receive a sticker, after payment has been received, to put onto the lid of their green garden waste bin. The property number should be written on the sticker to help with identification on collection day.

If we need to supply you with a bin, it will not necessarily be brand new as we have a practice of reusing bins where possible.

Which items we will collect

  • Grass Cuttings
  • Hedge Trimmings
  • Plants and cut flowers
  • Twigs and small branches
  • Weeds, plants, leaves and bark
  • Real Christmas trees cut to fit (these should be cut no thicker than your wrist and should be cut to fit into the bin)

Which items we will not collect

  • Food Waste (use your brown food caddy)
  • Garden tools and furniture
  • Soil, compost, stones, bricks and rubble
  • Cardboard and paper
  • Plastic pots and labels
  • Vegetable peelings
  • Animal faeces
  • Plastic bags
  • Chemicals
  • Ash
  • Soiled newspaper or sawdust used for animal bedding - we don't accept any type of animal bedding
  • General rubbish
  • Any type of packaging including those marked as being compostable/biodegradable/recyclable
