Information for landlords
If you are a landlord or agent that lets out rooms in a HMO, you are required to have a licence and the property must meet the minimum health and safety and HMO standards.
As a landlord, it is your responsibility to read the Renters Rights Act guidance in full. You must make the necessary changes to your letting practices to ensure you’re ready and compliant with the new law which was implemented on the 1st May 2026. The government has launched its awareness campaign for landlords and also produced a readiness checklist.
