Training and development
Developing our staff and growing our own talent is important to us. We believe that for our employees to deliver the best for the people of Gloucester, they need to be at their best.
We support continuous professional development (CPD) for staff at all levels, including funding professional qualifications, coaching and mentoring schemes, and we offer a comprehensive range of staff and management training and development programmes.
As well as providing a thorough induction into the role and the wider organisation, we have a comprehensive Corporate Training and Development Plan and empower our managers to identify and act on individual or team training needs. We support continuous professional development for staff at all levels, including funding professional qualifications where appropriate.
We invest in our teams and they have regular training on the most up-to-date policies, procedures and new practices. We make sure our colleagues have the space and time to share their own experiences to continually improve.
Management roles have clear training pathways with module-based programmes of development. A number of our managers are also accredited at ILM Level 5 Coaching and Mentoring, and we promote the benefits of coaching and mentoring to all employees and encourage as many people as possible to use this scheme to support their career development.
We've a career break policy to allow staff to take sabbaticals for personal development or to undertake a defined career break for personal or professional reasons.
