Gloucester’s car boot sale set to return

Gloucester’s popular car boot sale is set to return.

The car boot sale at Hempsted Meadows will be run by a new operator who has said they plan to offer additional activities at the site throughout the year.

The decision to grant a lease for the site follows a rigorous and robust market assessment process.

The new operator, which will be announced in due course, has extensive experience of running multiple car boot sites across the country.

They hope to run activities like music events, a drive-in cinema and outdoor fitness events at the site to ensure a vibrant, immersive, and engaging environment for its users and the community.

They will be required to submit annual business plans setting out how they will manage the land, meet planning conditions and provide facilities for the public, as well as marshalling events, dealing with waste or fly-tipping, and ensuring the land is well maintained.

The council is looking to agree a temporary licence with the new operator so that they can get up and running within a few weeks while lease negotiations are concluded.

A spokesperson for Gloucester City Council said: "We’re delighted to see the return of the car boot sale, which we know is extremely popular and a great way of recycling and reducing what goes to landfill.

The new operator impressed us with their application and ideas, which will expand what is offered at the site, and we look forward to welcoming people back to the Gloucester Car Boot Sale."
