Blackfriars Priory scoops international wedding award

Gloucester City Council is proud to announce Blackfriars Priory has been crowned a winner for the third time with its latest success in the country rounds of the International Wedding Awards 2022.

After their success in the local rounds of the awards in early 2021, the Priory went on to meet the criteria to make it through to the country rounds. The team were successful in both the ‘Wedding Planner’ and ‘Wedding Venue’ categories, representing the best in the UK.

Located in the heart of Gloucester City, Blackfriars is a stunning 13th Century monument that is steeped in history and charm. Run by a small, passionate team, this year’s achievements reflect the quality of the venue and the service provided by its staff.

Founded in 1239 on a site that had once been part of a Norman castle, the friary has undergone extensive restoration and is now used for concerts, weddings exhibitions and even yoga sessions.

The Priory reopened back in May 2021 following lockdown and is now getting booked for many weddings taking place this year and in 2023, with prospective brides and bridegrooms coming from as far away as London and Cornwall.

Cllr Andrew Lewis, cabinet member for culture and leisure at Gloucester City Council, said: “Blackfriars Priory is a jewel in Gloucester’s crown and we’re delighted that this has been recognised for a third time in the past year. It’s very pleasing to know we are providing a high standard of service. I would like to congratulate the team for their hard work to make every couple’s day special and who also put on all sorts of exciting and creative events making the most of this extraordinary venue.”
