Gloucester’s Luminarium to light up Kings Square

Gloucester City Council is delighted to announce the upcoming arrival of the immersive light experience, Arboria II, in Kings Square from August 12-21.

Arboria II is part of the Luminaria series by Architects of Air, a series of inflatable installations, which provide a unique encounter with light, that have been enjoyed by millions of visitors the world over.

With labyrinthine tunnels and cavernous domes, visitors will explore giant tree-like structures where cones and spheres combine to create a luminous tree trunk while listening to the sounds of the Ecuadorian Cloud Forest.

Aboria II is set to awaken all the senses, creating a sense of wonder and enchantment for all ages.

Tickets are now available to pre-book online from the Visit Gloucester website, with 40 tickets for each session bookable in advance, to avoid queues. Tickets will also be available on the day.

The event organised by the city council is intended to appeal to a very broad audience, embracing all ages, cultures and communities. The Luminarium originally grew out of a theatre project for people with learning disabilities and is also accessible to people with disabilities and wheelchair-users.

It is just one of the events being organised by the city council in King’s Square following its £5 million transformation. The next event will be the ever-popular Gloucester Goes Retro on Saturday, August 27.

Using the square as a place for events was one of the key requests that came from extensive consultations held with local people about the development.

Councillor Andy Lewis, cabinet member for culture and leisure at Gloucester City Council, said: “We are thrilled to announce the arrival of Gloucester’s Luminarium into Kings Square this August. Using our recently completed outdoor event space in the heart of the city, for a unique experience, that is accessible to all. We hope that visitors will come from far and wide to enjoy Arboria II, and of course, all of the other fantastic businesses and attractions that Gloucester is so proud of, during their visit.”
