Gloucester Guildhall’s spectacular summer programme
Venturing outside of the venue, the Live at Llanthony weekender takes place from July 19-21, set against the picturesque backdrop of Llanthony Secunda Priory.
The annual events transform the beautiful surroundings of the Priory’s gardens into a vibrant festival space - presenting world-class artists in a truly uniquely environment.
Previous years have seen remarkable performances from artists such as Frank Turner, Seasick Steve and Billy Bragg. This year’s line-up sees a full weekend programme for the first time, with a focus on traditional and contemporary folk.
On Friday, audiences can enjoy the heartfelt vocals of Kate Rusby.
Known as ‘the first lady of folk’ and the ‘Barnsley Nightingale’, Kate is a Mercury Prize nominee and six-times BBC Radio 2 Folk Award Winner with a warm, Yorkshire sense of humour and unprecedented cross-over appeal.
Saturday features the ethereal harmonies of The Staves, whose blend of folk and pop has earned them international acclaim.
The live series ends with a bang on Sunday with a show from internationally acclaimed Cornish band, the Fisherman’s Friends, which sold out in just two weeks.
From July 24-26, South American circus company Circolombia perform their new show Corazón at the Guildhall, which is run by Gloucester City Council.
It promises to transport audiences to the bustling heart of Colombia with a spectacle that shares the nation’s wealth of culture, energy and diversity.
Circolombia have toured the world, performing at festivals including Glastonbury, Edinburgh Fringe and Coventry City of Culture. Their performances are characterised by jaw dropping circus and aerial skills combined with music from the soul.
Louisa Davies, Head of Culture and Leisure Services at Gloucester City Council, said: “We’re delighted to bring these world-class music and circus shows to the city for all to enjoy. This year Live at Llanthony grows to a full weekender which sees some of the country’s best known folk music acts taking to the stage, while back inside our much-loved venue, the thrilling, wild energy of Circolombia will be the hot ticket for dance and circus lovers.”
