Council offers free parking to support city centre
Free parking will be available at Kings Walk Car Park and the Eastgate Shopping Centre from 4pm today (December 18) and December 19, 22 and 23.
Both car parks will be open until 7pm when the shopping centres close, so that people hoping to find that perfect present can take advantage of the shops staying open for late night shopping.
The move follows free parking offered to shoppers in some council carparks at the beginning of December for Small Business Saturday.
Many retailers rely on festive footfall, and the offer aims to support the city centre and boost trade during the busy Christmas period.
Councillor Declan Wilson, deputy leader of Gloucester City Council and Cabinet Member for Performance and Resources, said: “Our city centre is the beating heart of Gloucester so it’s important that we do everything we can to support it. While we know that many people will do some of their shopping online I would urge shoppers to also shop local if they can. Nothing beats local friendly service especially at Christmas and every pound spent keeps our city a thriving and vibrant place to live, work and visit.”
