Gloucester’s popular Hempsted car boot sale is set to return

A new lease has been approved for Gloucester’s popular car boot sale return.

The newly appointed operating company for Gloucester’s Car Boot Sale has said it hopes trading can begin before early July.

Capital Boot Sales applied for the lease for the highly popular market at Hempsted as part of a rigorous marketing process run by  the site owners, Gloucester City Council.

Applicants were required to submit annual business plans setting out how they will manage the land, meet planning conditions and provide facilities for the public, as well as marshalling events, dealing with waste and fly-tipping, and ensuring the land is well maintained.

The new operating company has experience of running car boot sales in other parts of the country. This will be its first site in Gloucestershire.

It hopes to use the site for other activities such as music events, a drive-in cinema and outdoor fitness events to make the most of the area for users and the community.

A spokesperson for Gloucester City Council said: "We know people are very keen to see the car boot reopen and we’ve been working flat out to make that happen. We know that residents would expect us to do everything we can to ensure that the event is well run and makes full use of the site for the local community. We are delighted to be able to announce this development and welcome the planned return of this much-loved event.”
