Prestigious Purple Flag Award Win for Gloucester

This years’ judges were wowed by the huge regeneration taking place across the city including the Food Dock, which has been supported by the city council and boasts 12 independent food businesses.
They also earmarked the multi-million-pound Forum development as a must-see, which will include a boutique hotel complete with restaurant, conferencing facilities and rooftop cocktail bar.
It’s the eighth year in a row that Gloucester has been awarded a purple flag, the mark of a place offering a safe and welcoming night out.
The Purple Flag is like the Blue Flag for beaches or the Green Flag for parks and is awarded by ATCM the Association of Town and City Management.
The prestigious international award given to night-time destinations around the world, is awarded to places that provide a vibrant, diverse mix of dining, entertainment and culture, while providing a safe and welcoming night out.
City council officers, Gloucestershire Constabulary, City Safe, Ubico, Gloucester LVA and the Gloucester BID all contributed to Gloucester’s application.
Councillor Rebecca Trimnell, Cabinet member for Community Engagement at Gloucester City Council, said: “I am very proud that once again our city has rightly impressed the judges. Destinations like the Food Dock, the Forum and the growing list of businesses that are flocking to our city thanks to these developments are helping to reinvigorate both our night-time and our day-time economy and putting Gloucester back on the map.”
Sarah Mansfield of Gloucester Food Dock, said: “This is an exciting award. A growing and well managed evening economy in Gloucester is hugely important for projects such as the Food Dock. The docks provide a wonderful and safe environment for everyone to enjoy and this award is a welcome recognition of this achievement. “
