Ban and injunction granted against prolific offender

Gloucester and Cheltenham County Court has granted a civil injunction against Marika Badzova, following ongoing concerns about her behaviour towards businesses, staff and members of the public.

The injunction follows a long history of shop theft, aggressive and intimidating behaviour, threats of violence, racial abuse and assaults. Businesses have reported that the impact of this behaviour has left staff feeling threatened and, in some cases, reluctant to report incidents due to fears of further abuse.

As part of the order, Marika Badzova is now excluded from all businesses that are members of the City Safe scheme across Gloucestershire.

Morag Gordon, Engagement Officer at Gloucester City Council, said: "When people have very complex lifestyles, Gloucester City Council's priority is always to encourage them to access support, treatment and the help available to them. However, when that support is repeatedly refused and an individual continues to cause significant anti-social behaviour, we will not hesitate to take enforcement action to protect the wider community. This civil injunction sends a clear message that abuse, intimidation and aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated. It will help ensure that residents, visitors and people coming into our city can do so without fear of being subjected to threatening or abusive behaviour by Marika Badzova."

Inspector James O'Neill from the Gloucester Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Anti-social behaviour and shoplifting are not victimless crimes and we hope this positive action shows our continued efforts in targeting those who impact our residents and local communities."

The City Safe partnership brings together local authorities, businesses, police and other agencies to tackle persistent anti-social behaviour and help keep town and city centres safe for everyone.

Anyone who witnesses a breach of the injunction is urged to report it to Gloucestershire Constabulary.
