Allotment locations & number of plots at sites

Gloucester currently has 10 sites across the city:

Hawthorns & Tredworth Fields, Hartland Road, GL1 4RU (52 plots of mixed sizes for Hawthorns; 23 plots of mixed sizes & 1 large community plot for Tredworth Fields)
Hempsted Cross, St Swithuns Road, GL2 5LH (2 large plots)
Innsworth Allotments, Innsworth Lane, GL2 0DF (94 plots of mixed sizes)

Quedgeley Allotments:

Goosebay Drive, GL2 2GZ (the site includes a variety of plot sizes including raised bed plots for individuals and groups with mobility problems)

Please note that there is a waiting list for the majority of allotment sites, although some waiting lists are shorter than others. There are no currently plots available at any site, so you will be added to the waiting list of your nearest site.

How do I rent an allotment?

How much does it cost?

From 01 November 2017, the plot charge increased to £0.17 per square metre. They will increase by 2.5% in November 2018 and again by 2.5% in November 2019.

The following outlines the general costs & concession rates:

  • Standard half plot - (126 square metres): £21.96 per annum (Over 65 years /Housing Benefit/Council Tax Support/ Disabled: £12.97 per annum)
  • Standard full plot - (253 square metres): £44.10 per annum (Over 65 years /Housing Benefit/Council Tax Support/ Disabled: £25.93 per annum).
  • Disabled concessions are based on certain criteria which will be clarified at the start of the tenancy.
  • All concessions are applicable to one plot per person only.

Please note that there is a charge of £20 to set up a new tenancy. This is a one-off fee and you will be billed with your first invoice.

The allotment tenancy year will alter from previous years (which have run from 1st January to 31st December) and will start from 1st November 2016 to 31st October.

Allotment Structure Applications

If you're a new/existing allotment tenant and you wish to erect a structure (shed, greenhouse, poly tunnel, etc.), you need permission from the City Council to do so.

Allotment Strategy for Gloucester

On the 10th of December 2014, the City Council's Cabinet adopted the Allotment Strategy for Gloucester. The Strategy provides a framework in which allotments can develop and thrive both now and into the future.
