Apply or Renew an Extra or Larger Black Bin
You may be able to get an extra or larger bin, if you're recycling everything you can by making full use of your recycling containers, and if any of the following apply to you:
- there are 7 or more residents registered at the property;
- there are 2 or more children under the age of 3 and still wearing nappies;
- certain medical conditions.
For us to assess your application you must have, and be using:
- 2 green recycling boxes (one for glass; one for plastic, tins and cans);
- 1 blue sack (for paper and cardboard);
- 1 large food caddy (to put your food waste outside for collection).
If you don’t currently have all of these, you can order recycling containers.
How to apply for, or renew, an extra or larger black bin
The easiest way to apply for, or renew, an extra or larger bin is using our online form.
You'll need to provide photos of your recycling on a recent collection day (please remove lids so recycling can clearly be seen).
If your application is approved, the charge for a large bin is £55. For an extra bin, the charge will depend on the size of the bin you are given.
We will email you a payment link once your application has been approved.
Please phone us on 01452 396 396 if you cannot use the online service.
What happens next?
We aim to provide you with a decision within 6 weeks. We may contact you for more information or a site visit may be required. Until a decision is made, it is your responsibility to manage your extra waste.
Important things to consider before you apply for an additional or larger bin:
If you qualify for additional capacity, you will need to pay for the larger / additional bin.
We will then carry out regular reviews and random audits. If you no longer qualify for additional capacity, or if you are found to not be fully recycling, the large bin will be downsized and / or the additional bin removed and no refund will be issued in these circumstances.
If the larger / additional bin cannot be removed from the property, it will be classed as unauthorised and will not be emptied. You will then be responsible for disposing of any waste accumulation at your property.
Please consider these conditions carefully before applying for additional capacity.
If you are struggling to manage your waste:
- Check out the Waste Wizard to see which items can be recycled and where;
- Book a visit to a County Council Household Recycling Centre;
- If your excess waste consists of nappies, consider reusable nappies.
