Important - There has been an outbreak of Avian Influenza (also known as bird flu) in Gloucestershire.

Do not touch or pick up any dead or visibly sick birds that you find.

How to report dead wild birds

If you find any dead wild waterfowl (swans, geese, or ducks) or other dead wild birds such as gulls or birds of prey, you should report them using the online system on GOV.UK or call the Defra helpline (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) on 03459 33 55 77.

What you need to know

We will:

  • remove wild animals such as badgers and foxes as well as domestic animals such as cats and dogs

We will not: 

  • remove dead pets from your home or private property, please contact your local vet surgery

What happens next

  • we will remove the dead animal within two working days
  • we check all domestic animals for identification, including microchips to identify and contact the owner
