Gloucester Lighting Strategy

The Gloucester Lighting Strategy 2008 has been produced in order to enhance the night-time economy of Gloucester, strengthen local distinctiveness and to reduce crime and the fear of crime. At present, there are many historic buildings and spaces which would benefit from lighting schemes that could improve the overall appeal of the central area to both visitors and residents alike. The document can be downloaded by clicking on the link below.

In order to achieve these aims the Strategy sets out how the city could be improved with the aid of creative lighting solutions and contains a number of short-term projects which are being developed at present. It has been produced on behalf of the City Council by Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Services Ltd and CSG Lighting Consultancy Ltd in conjunction with Gloucestershire County Council and the Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company.

It has been developed from an initial draft produced by the City Council which was the subject of an informal consultation (see links below). It is hoped that it will be developed further by the preparation of a Draft Supplementary Planning Document which will incorporate technical as well as planning and design guidance. This will be the subject of a further period of formal public consultation, under Regulation 17 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Development) (England) Regulation 2004.
